About Sarkhej Roza Dargah.

Sarkhej Roza (Ahmedabad) Short History: Shaikh Ahmed Khattu Ganj Bakhsh was a friend and adviser of Ahmad Shah I , the ruler of the Gujarat Sultanate from 1411 until his death in 1442. Bakhsh retired to Sarkhej in the last few years of his life and died here in 1445. Muhammad Shah II, the successor of Ahmed Shah I, commissioned a tomb for Sheikh Bakhsh which was completed in 1451. Qutb'ud-Din’s successor sultan Mahmud Begada decided to expand the monument—a mausoleum for his family was erected opposite the saint’s grave and a stepped lake was excavated around the area, with a carved sluice gate to supply it with water that overflowed from the nearby Makarba lake. He also added pavilions and a private mosque called Jama Masjid, converting the site into a royal family retreat for both leisure and spiritual succor.
